Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy "Muddy" Lewis, 89, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, in Fremont, Calif., where she had lived in her final years to be near her daughter. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde W. Baird (5-10-45) who died in WWII. She also was preceded in death by her second husband of 41 years, Arthur Dale "Fod" Lewis (2-3-88). She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Moruca King, Hazel Espaneeta McWilliams and Johnnie T. Dillman, and two brothers, Charlie Marvin McDonald and Robert Earl "Pete" McDonald. Dorothy was born April 16, 1922, in Lockney to Sally Bell Walling McDonald and John Wilson McDonald. Dorothy graduated from Plainview High School and Plainview Business College. Dorothy was a mother and homemaker, enjoying life with her family and friends. She was a devoted daughter, a loving sister, a caring mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a joy to be around with a great sense of humor and a true love of life. Visits from "Muddy" were always welcome. She lived in Amarillo for 35 years before retiring with her husband to Colorado Springs, Colo., where she lived for over 20 years enjoying family, friends and frequent trips to Cripple Creek to play the nickel slot machines. Dorothy is survived by her son, Dr. Kenny M. Baird and his wife Debbie of Georgetown, Texas, and her daughter, Tracie Lewis Curry and her husband, Dean of Union City, Calif. She has three grandsons, Sean Curry, Gannon Baird and his wife Kellie, and Keegan Baird; and one granddaughter, Kelly Curry Ortiz and her husband, Danny. She also has two great-granddaughters, Ronin and Raziel Ortiz. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at Lemons Funeral Home, 206 W. Eighth St., Plainview, with a graveside service at 2 p.m. in Plainview Memorial Park.
