Obituary

Memorial services for Wilbur Thomas Leon, 77, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg with the Rev. Lee Crouch officiating, assisted by John Blythe. Burial will be in the Petersburg Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. He died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at his residence. He was born July 23, 1930, in Rule. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1947 and Texas Technological College in 1950. He married Mary Settle on Aug. 9, 1949, in Lubbock. He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg where he taught Sunday school. He served on the Petersburg city council. Survivors include three daughters and three sons-in-law, Paula and Larry Martin of Petersburg, Kathy and Dickie Vanderpool of Wolfforth, and Janet and Danny Shuffield of Austin; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Tommy Leon and Don Glover of Salem, Mass., and Carroll and Cherise Leon of Petersburg; two sisters, Barbara Scheef and Linda Zachary; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. His wife, Mary; and daughter, Anne, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, 1706 Ave. G, Petersburg, TX 79250 or to the Petersburg Library, 1614 Main St., Petersburg, TX 79250.
