Memorial services for Elizabeth Dwyer Hartley Lee will be at 10 a.m. Monday at College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, and the Rev. Alvin Petty officiating. Elizabeth died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, in Plainview Health Care Center. She was born Lottie Elizabeth Bird Nov. 15, 1907, in McLean, the daughter of Tom and Laura Elizabeth Bird. She was affectionately known to her family as "sister." Throughout her life she lived in McLean, Magic City, Shamrock, Petersburg, Sunray twice and Plainview. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. She was married to Martin Ambrose Dwyer; Dennis J. Hartley on Jan. 22, 1966; and the Rev. Joe Ernest Lee on March 30, 1987. All preceded her in death. She and Martin Dwyer had one daughter, Martha Sue Dwyer Lunsford of Plainview. She also had two beloved stepchildren, Raymond Hartley of Plainview and Mary Helen Meadors of Sacramento, Calif. Both are deceased. Throughout her life, Elizabeth Lee was active in church work. She served as WMU Presidents, Head of Nurseries, and also as a nursery worker. She worked at a childcare center in Plainview while she took a business course. Elizabeth was a dormitory counselor at Ferguson Hall at Wayland University. She was affectionately known as "Mom Dwyer." The international students were fond of her. She let them cook foods from their homelands in the basement kitchen of Ferguson during holidays. Survivors of the Bird family are nieces Merla Ann Kramer of Arlington, Billie Joyce Short of Dallas, Toynette Bird of Coleman, Carolyn Bird of Stinnett, Joyce Bird of Amarillo, wife of Chester Bird, Marie Bird of Stinnett and Judy Grayson. Nephews are R.F. Bird and wife Julie of Dallas and Noel Archer of Barstow, Calif. Cousins surviving are Coyette and wife Bee Bird of Amarillo, Graceoma Batt of Lubbock, Linda Kay Kuehnast of Amarillo, Bobby and wife Kathi Bird of Amarillo, Corene and husband James Shield of Abilene, Ann and husband C.L. Chafin of Oak Dale, Va., Barbara Cook of Colorado and Larry Bird is deceased. Elizabeth's brothers and sisters are all deceased. They were Clairy Bird, Roy Bird, Chester Bird, Jim Bird, William A. Bird, Annie Bell Ziegler and Tommy Archer. Survivors of the Dwyer family are a daughter, Martha Sue Dwyer Lunsford and son-in-law James Lunsford of Plainview; and a grandson, James Edwin (Eddie) Lunsford of Plainview. Nephews are Carl Dwyer of McLean, Edward Dwyer of Kansas, Arthur James Dwyer of Canyon and Jerry Don Dwyer of McLean; and a niece, Lavanda Dwyer of McLean. Deceased nephews are Joe Dwyer of Crosbyton and Archie Dwyer of McLean. Survivors of the Hartley family are a step daughter-in-law, Evelyn Hartley, wife of the late Raymond Hartley of Friona; a step son-in-law, George Adrian Meador, husband of the late Mary Helen of Sacramento, Calif; step granddaughter and husband, Kathy and Alvin Petty of Friona; a step grandson and wife Dennis Ray, and Doris Hartley of Plainview; a step great-grandson and wife, Jonathan and Mindy Petty of Plainview; and a step great-granddaughter and husband, Rachel and Randy Jackson of Plainview. Burial will be at Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.
