Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth LaFrance, 91, of Plainview passed away Feb. 12, 2007, at the Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton. Dorothy was born September 20, 1915, in Foster County, Oklahoma, to Sam and Adeline Shippey. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at the First Assembly of God in Plainview with retired pastor, R.T. Havener of Big Spring, and Q.D. Bevill of Bethel Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be at Kornerstone Funeral Directors from 6-8 p.m. today. She married Earnest LaFrance in Clovis, N.M., on June 26, 1934. They farmed in the Plainview, Kress and Olton communities. Earnest died June 11, 1978, and she moved to Plainview from the farm at Olton. Dorothy was very active in the community. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Plainview, the Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) where she served as president two terms, Knife and Fork Club, Athenium Study Club and attended the Community Concerts. She taught Youth Sunday School at the Southside Assembly of God. Dorothy is survived by one son, Jerry LaFrance and wife, Janet, of Roswell, N.M.; two daughters, Delores Bevill and husband, Q.D., of Plainview and Patricia Hukill and husband, Dewey, of Olton; grandchildren, Debbie Breland and husband, Gregg, of Dumas, Sam Pierson and wife, Brenda, of Spearman, Cynthia Dowdey and husband, Michael, of Richardson, Brent Pierson and wife, Dawn, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kregg Hukill and wife, Lezlie, of Plainview, Kelli Smith and husband, John, of Amarillo, Kevin Hukill and wife, Tamra, of Olton, Jeri Lynn White and husband, Bill, of Friona, and Jodie LaFrance and wife, Jodi, of Fort Stockton; one sister, Eula Childers of South Carolina; and one sister-in-law, Ardell Shippey of Pleasant Hill, California; 18 great grandchildren; and one special niece and friend, Peggy Poteet of Olton. Memorials are suggested to the Hospital Auxiliary, 2601 Olton Rd., Plainview, TX 79072, the Runningwater Draw Care Center, P.O. Box 409, Olton, TX 79064, or VistaCare Hospice, 4418 Olton Rd., Plainview, TX 79072. Pallbearers will be Sam Pierson, Gregg Breland, Michael Dowdey, Brent Pierson, Kregg Hukill, Kevin Hukill, John Smith, Jodie LaFrance, and Bill White, all grandsons.
