Obituary

Dale Lacewell passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Bryan, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. Mr. Lacewell was born Nov. 23, 1914, in Hamilton, Texas, to Windsor and Ina Lacewell. His early childhood was spent near Tulia until the family moved to Eastern New Mexico. He left the family farm to enroll in college in Western Oklahoma, working at the college dairy and a local cafe. From there he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression, working on government-sponsored projects in the Lubbock vicinity. On Jan. 1, 1939, Dale married Maysel Faye Terrell in Plainview, Texas. After working around Dumas, they purchased a farm in the Irick community in Floyd County. They lived in the Irick community from 1945-1963 when they moved to Plainview. Their farming interests included land in Floyd and Hale counties. Dale retired in 1980 and concentrated on his love of golf, which he enjoyed until his late 80s. He was baptized at age 12 in Tulia. Dale was preceded in death by his wives, Maysel in 1998 and Flossie in 2003. He also had two sisters, Inez and Mardee, and two brothers, Boone and Rorex, who preceded him. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Ron and Jane Lacewell of College Station and Randy and Sharon Lacewell of Norman, Okla.; a daughter and her husband, Lauretta and Mark Langley of Billings, Mont. Among those he left behind are eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Billie Parton of Hereford and Rudene Crowley of Farwell, and one brother, Windsor "Lace" Lacewell of Ruidoso, N.M. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Plainview with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. today at Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview and from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park.
