Kirchhoff, John Joseph

Funeral services for John Joseph Kirchoff, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Mary Lou Dillon, pastor, and the Rev. James A. Mock, retired Episcopal minister, officiating.

Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. Kirchoff died Sunday, April 20, 2003, in Covenant Hospital.

He was born June 30, 1924, in Bicknel, Ind. He moved to Plainview in 1926 and graduated from Plainview High School in 1941.

While attending Texas Tech he enlisted in the 8th Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He returned to Plainview after the war and began farming. In 1950, he started the first commercial feed lot in West Texas. He also was active in real estate development in Plainview and in developing the Westridge Addition, Holiday Inn, Edgemere shopping area and Rio Concho Mobile Home Park.

He served 13 years as chairman of the board of Nichols Hospital and was active in the completion of the Running Water Draw Watershed Conservation Project. He was instrumental in bringing industries in to the area such as Missouri Beef (Excel) and Best Fertilizer (Occidental Chemical.) The last few years, he was active as a real estate broker and named Kirchoff Real Estate Companies in Texas and New Mexico.

He was a member of First Christian Church.

He married Mary Virginia Mixon on May 23, 1948, in Plainview.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Jill Kirchoff of Temple; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Karen and John C. Mast of Nacogdoches; and four grandchildren, Mary, Jacq, and Samantha Kirchoff of Temple and Horace and John Joseph Mast of Nacogdoches.

The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
