Obituary
Funeral services for Timothy Dean King, 46, of Amarillo, formerly of Plainview, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Assembly of God with Emmitt Tipton, a church layman, officiating. Arrangements are by Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. King died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in Amarillo. He was born June 24, 1958, in Eaton Rapids, Mich., and graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1976. He attended Lansing Community College and Amarillo College and graduated from the South Plains Association of Governments Police Academy. King served with the Portales Police Department (1981), Plainview Police Department (1981-89) and Tulia Police Department (1991-93). He also served as a reserve officer for the Hale Center Police Department. In 1993, Mr. King began working at the Tulia Detention Center before joining the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's prison system, working at the Wheeler-Formby units in Plainview from 1995-2004. He was serving at the Amarillo Clements Unit at the time of his death. He served as organist at First Assembly of God from 1982-99 and was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church and had worked with the 180 youth program. He also was a member of the Southwest Baseball Umpires Association and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing and baseball with his sons. Survivors include four sons and one daughter-in-law, Jared Michael and Laci King and Jordan Matthew King, Jacob Malachi King and Jayden Mark King, all of Plainview; his parents, Lyle D. and Dorothy King of Dimondale, Mich.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert L. and Jackie King of Charlotte, Mich.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Julie and Don McLain of Holt, Mich., and Lynette and Mike Mayotte of Grand Lodge, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Penne Spencer King. The family suggests memorials to Trinity Fellowship Church 180 Youth Program.
