Obituary

PETERSBURG - Funeral services for Minard King Jr., 72, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ira Lee King, the Rev. Oscar Gentry and Dan McGee officiating. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery by White Funeral Home of Idalou. Mr. King died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Petersburg. He was born July 14, 1929, in Ennis, the son of the late Minard and Edrena Mourns King. He attended Ennis School and moved to Petersburg in 1953 from Crowell. He was a farmer and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Petersburg. On Dec. 14, 1946, he married Josephine Johnson in Crowell. Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Ira Lee King, Joe Minard King, Donnie Ray King and Paul Tracy King, all of Amarillo, Johnny Burt King of Petersburg, Jack King of Lubbock and Jerry King of Del City, Okla.; six daughters, Nellene Campbell, Connie Faye Thomas, Carla Kay Thomas, Amy Jo King and Shelia Joyce Miller, all of Amarillo and Pamela Ann King of Lubbock; four brothers, Charles King of Dallas, Horace Phylow and Alvin Lee Phylow, both of California, and Ray King of Mesquite; five sisters, Helen Williams of Carson, Calif., Mary Alice Jelks of Houston, Dorothy Phylow and Gloria Berry, both of Long Beach, Calif., and Kathy Allen of Olton; 38 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters are deceased. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 tonight at the funeral home.
