Services for J.E. Bert King, 78, of Plainview will be 2 p.m. Monday at College Height Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Robert Roecker, associate pastor of the church, officiating.

Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

King died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born March 24, 1921, in the Liberty community and married Verna Mae Doss in Brownfield, Nov. 16, 1943. He attended Watson Business School and was a sergeant in the Army during World War II. He worked for Colliers Monument Company as a designer and engraver. In 1955, he moved to Petersburg and worked for Almon Cotton and Grain as a bookkeeper. He also worked at Petersburg Coop Grain. In 1978, he moved to Plainview and worked for Plainview Hardware until his retirement in 1995. He was also an active member of College Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include, his wife; a daughter, Linda Kay Dilks of La Porte, Ind.; a son, Charles Thomasp of Arlington; a sister, Mildred Graham of Blowing Rock, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Three sisters died previously.
