Obituary
Graveside services for Joseph Carl King II, 62, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Plainview Cemetery with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial arrangements are by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home. Mr. King died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in August Health Care in Lubbock after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 27, 1939, in Shirley. He served with the U.S. Air Force and worked as a switchman for Southwestern Bell for 32 years. He was a Baptist. On July 3, 1969, he married Shirley Ann Raper in Plainview. Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Christine King of Stephenville and Erik King of Plainview; a daughter and son-in-law, Robbie and Jerry Hembree of Plainview; his parents, Carl and Lois Smith King of Plainview; a brother, Gene King of Georgetown; a sister, Kay Morse of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Ryan Hembree and Keisha Hembree, both of Plainview, Ryan Moody, Billy Roy King and Rheanna King, all of Stephenville; and one great-grandson, Tyler Hembree of Plainview. The family will be at the Hembree home, 4610 W. Second, and suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
