Obituary

Funeral services for Joy Fleet Kersh, 85, of Plainview, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Parkview Baptist Church in Plainview with the Rev. Joe Weldon of South Plains Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Kersh died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Plainview Health Care Center. He was born Aug. 9, 1927, in Olton to F.W. and Sarah Ellen (Cox) Kersh. Joy and Geneva Mae Bruington were married Oct. 6, 1945, at Date St. Baptist Church in Plainview. He worked construction almost his entire life, and also built the family home. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Kersh of Plainview; children, Ronald Kersh and wife Nancy of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Karnald Kersh and wife Lisa of Plainview; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Kersh was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alva Kersh; a sister, Birdie Copeland; and two sons: Donald Kersh and Arnald Kersh.
