Obituary

Margaret Kay, 87, of Plainview passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kyle Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Margaret was born on Jan. 25, 1927, in Plainview to Quincy and Irene (Hartley) Gaines. She grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1945. She then attended Wayland Baptist before graduating from Watson Business College. She worked for the City of Plainview as a secretary for five years. She was a homemaker and business partner in the farming operation with her husband. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, visitation chairman, song leader and church treasurer. She also served as the president of United Methodist Women. She was named Texas Extension Education Association Woman of the Year in 2007. She was also a member of the Northwest Extension Club, La Casa Club, had years of service with the PTA, served two terms on the Hale County Health Committee and volunteered as a 4-H Fashion Show judge. Margaret was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness and giving heart. She loved her family and was always there for them. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry and Sonny Gaines; and two sisters, Mildred Willard and Elizabeth Dixon. Survivors include her husband Charles Kay of Plainview; two daughters, Karen Royal and husband L.A. of Edmonson, and Glenda Kay of Dallas; four grandchildren, Jeremy Royal and wife Jenna of Dallas, Aaron Royal and Linda of Lubbock, Quincy Sorrels of Dallas, Avery Sorrels of New York City; three great-grandchildren, Courtney Royal of Lubbock, and Amelia and Harrison Royal of Dallas.
