Obituary
Annie May Bloxom Jurcak, 89, of Plainview, passed away at 5:54 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Covenant Hospital Plainview. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at Plainview Cemetery with Colquitt Nash, minister of Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ, officiating. Burial is under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Jurcak was born Jan. 27, 1917, at Dora, Texas, to John Thomas and Anne Jane Bloxom. She spent her early childhood in Nolan County then moved to Lockney where her father farmed. Annie May loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and in high school played volleyball, basketball and baseball. She graduated from Lockney High School in 1934. She studied and graduated from Watson's Business School of Plainview then was a secretary for a law firm in Dalhart. She returned to Plainview later to become a bookkeeper for the Plainview Co-op Creamery where she met Louis B. Jurcak. They were married Dec. 24, 1940, in Dimmitt. Because of her strong passion for art, she began a longtime study of painting. She opened the Jurcak Figurine Shop where she taught American Dresden painting and ceramics. She went on to teach tole and decretive painting and oil canvas. She was a member of Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Thompson and husband Loren of Burtrum, Minn.; her son, Thomas L. Jurcak and wife Maureen of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; four grandchildren, Craig L. Thompson of Santa Monica, Calif., Kimlee A. Thompson of Milwaukee, Wis., Cory M. and Christa Jurcak of Seattle, Wash., and Casey T. Jurcak of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; an adopted grandson, Bill Kelley of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; nephews, Thomas and Glenda Bloxom of Alma, Ark., and Bill and Barbara Bloxom of Santa Fe, N.M.; and a niece, Nancy and George Roelse of Dallas.
