Obituary

Services for Sarah Jane Johnston, 70 of Kress will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bartley Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dale Bostic, pastor of Faith Tabernacle in Lubbock, officiating, and the Rev. Ron Brunson of Cowboy Church assisting. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Johnston died Sept. 10, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. She was born June 28, 1939, in Plainview to Allen Davis and Sarah Ethel "Hill" Bailey. She married James Johnston on May 24, 1957, in Finney Switch. Mrs. Johnston was a graduate of Plainview High School. At one time or another during the years her four children were in school, she held all offices in all of the following organizations, the Woman's Society, Sunday school teacher, all levels, and all grades, Vacation Bible School teacher, Parent Teacher Association, Band Parents (out of town car driver), Sports Parent (out of town car driver), and Boy Scout leader, all levels. She worked at Furr's Cafeteria for 21 years until retiring in September 1999 for health reasons. Survivors include her husband, James Johnston of Kress ; two sons, Jimmy Johnston and his wife, Kathy, of Brownfield and Alen Johnston and his wife, Mickey, of Lubbock; one daughter, Christine Johnston of Houston; one sister, Roxy Lynch of Olympia, Wash.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
