Waylon Ray Johnson, 76, of Plainview passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015, in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Garland Street Church of Christ with Mr. Carl Smiley officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the funeral home. Waylon was born on Sept. 8, 1938, in Chalk, Texas, to Ira and Winnie Johnson. He grew up in Paducah helping his father on the farm. He later ran a gas station for several years. He became a machinist and worked for Green Machinery, Stapleton Brothers, Hamby Company and D&J. He was a member of the Garland Street Church of Christ. Waylon was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Joy Banister Johnson; parents; two brothers, Huel and Marlin Johnson; three sisters, Thelma Yowell, Mildred Ryan and Betty Webb; and one grandson, Jermey Ellena. Survivors include his three children, Debbie Hearn and husband Rodney of Plainview, Eddie Johnson and Sandie Martin of Welch, Oklahoma, and Jennie Reese and husband Charley of Lubbock; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
