Funeral services for Leslie Fielding Johnson, 88, of Hale Center will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with Dr. Carroll Green, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, Texas. Mr. Johnson died July 29, 2008, at Prairie House Living Center in Plainview, Texas. He was born June 22, 1920, in Ashtola, Texas. He married Alma Rea Davis on Nov. 4, 1939, in Olton, Texas. She died Sept. 16,1974. He served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees during World War II, making the invasion at Omaha Beach. He then was sent to the Pacific until the end of the war. He had been employed at Center Implement and Brown & White Implement in Sudan, Texas, and farmed with his father in Hale Center. He later worked for Tillerson Fish in Plainview until retiring in 1982. After his retirement, he enjoyed life from a tractor cab for many years, driving a tractor for a lot of Hale Center area farmers. He is survived by a special friend, Corinne Gibson of Hale Center; a son, Jim Johnson and his wife, Elaine, of Abernathy; a granddaughter, Ayme and her husband, Mike Miles, of Hale Center; a grandson, Christopher and his wife, Stephanie Johnson, of Lubbock; five great-grandchildren, Emily Stark, Cayla and Grace Miles and Jayden and Hunter Johnson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Baughman. There will be family visitation from 6-7:30 p.m. today, Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the funeral home.
