Funeral services for Jessee ?Doc? Johnson, 71, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Lemons Memorial Chapel with Randy Byrd, pastor of The Barn Church in Hereford, officiating.

Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at his residence after an illness.

He was born May 27, 1928, in Petersburg. He grew up in Petersburg and Gainesville. He worked on the LS Ranch in Wildorado and then moved to Wyoming. He returned to Texas and worked for Southwestern Public Service in Plainview from December 1949 to August 1987.

He was a member of the Bar None Rodeo Association, the National Rifle Association and the Texas Rifle Association. He was a founding member of the Comancheros, a horseback riding club.

On July 22, 1945, he married Virginia Bentley in Billings, Mont. She died Aug. 12, 1997.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Simpson and Mrs. Todd (Cindy) Durrett, both of Lubbock; a daughter-in-law, Terri Johnson of Hereford; two brothers, Richard Johnson of Bartlesville, Okla., and Paul Johnson of Dimmitt; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Terry Ray Johnson, and a granddaughter, Kristi Dawn Simpson, are deceased.
