Obituary

James Wayland Johnson Sr., 66, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Brazosport Regional Health System in Lake Jackson. He was born April 13, 1942, in Abernathy, Texas, to Adron and Melvina Johnson. He enlisted in the Army after graduation and was stationed in Tuley, Greenland, and fought for his country bravely. He was a member of First Capitol Missionary Baptist Church in West Columbia. After retiring from Dow Security, he pursued his favorite hobbies of hunting and fishing. "J.W." is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Yvonne Johnson of West Columbia; son, James Wayland Johnson Jr., and wife, Susan, of Norfolk, Va.; daughter, Stacey Lynn Martinez and husband, Eric, of Texline, Texas; brother, Ed Johnson and wife, Carol, of Hale Center, Texas; sister, Janet Perkinson of Hale Center, Texas; two grandchildren, Audrianna and Seth Martinez; and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Abernathy Cemetery in Abernathy, Texas, with the Rev. Green officiating. Visitation will be from 8:45-10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Abernathy Cemetery.
