Obituary

Graveside services for Melvina Johnson, 84, will be held 3 p.m. Thursday in Abernathy Cemetery with Dr. Carroll Green, interim pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at Care Inn of Plainview. She was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Eldorado, Okla. She married Adron Murvin Johnson on Jan. 14, 1938, in Matador. He died Jan. 10, 1985. Survivors include two sons, Ed Johnson of Hale Center and James Johnson of West Columbia; one daughter, Janet Perkinson of Hale Center; two sisters, Dorothy McKnight of Plainview and Joyce Egull of Beaumont; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. One son, three brothers and one sister also are deceased.
