Obituary

HALE CENTER - Funeral services for Lloyd Jeffreys, 86, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Gene Meacham, director of the Caprock-Plains Baptist Area, officiating.
Burial will be in the Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mr. Jeffreys died at his home, Friday, April 5, 2002. He was born on Dec. 24, 1915 in Dougherty, Okla. and graduated from Post High School. He married Mildred Kisor on April 14, 1940 in Roswell, N.M. She died Dec. 24, 1957. He married Marie Havenhill in 1961 in Hale Center. She died May 6, 2001. Mr. Jeffreys moved to Hale Center in 1933 and owned and operated a bowling alley and farmed with his father in Hale Center. His father drilled one of the first irrigation wells in the Hale Center area, one mile west of Cotton Boll Gin. He moved to Brownfield in 1940 and to Slaton in 1948 before moving back to Hale Center in 1955. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a 50-year member of Lemond Masonic Lodge 832. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Wanda Jeffreys of Clovis, N.M.; two sisters, Jewel Burns of Hinton, Okla. and Berniece Kisor of Brownfield; two grandsons, Vance Jeffreys and his wife Susan of Lubbock and Toby Jeffreys of Clovis; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Jeffreys of Lubbock and special friends, Jim and Shirley Bandy. A brother, Norvell Jeffreys, and a sister, Opal Woods, are deceased. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Shriners Children?s Hospital.
