Obituary
Pearl Mildred Hughes, 84, of Plainview, Texas, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004. Services will be held Monday June 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Lemons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Pearl was born in Goodnight, Texas, Aug. 26, 1919, to Alfred and Lossie Scarborough. They moved to Petersburg where she attended school and then to Lubbock where she graduated. She attended Texas Tech where she received her teaching degree in home economics. She taught in Knox City where she met and married Lynwood Hughes on Nov. 16, 1943. She also worked in the Albuquerque, N.M., Air Traffic Controller Unit during the war. Pearl taught ninth grade English at Plainview High School for 25 years. Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Johnny and Connie Hughes of Canyon, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Lana & Dan Young of Ingleside, Texas; her grandchildren, Jason Hughes and wife Anna of Dallas, Brian Hughes of Lubbock, Nathan Young of Austin, Tarah Young of Ingleside and Dan Young Burkett and wife Julie; and great-granddaughter Daley of Scottsdale, Ariz. Her husband, Lynwood Hughes, precedes her in death. She was a gracious, loving, Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend who always put her family first. She loved to cook, sew and read. We will miss her loving spirit. Memorials may be made to the College Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, The American Cancer Society or to Multiple Sclerosis Research. Burial will be at Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home.
