Hughes, Gayla L. Walker

ABERNATHY ? Funeral services for Gayla Walker Hughes, 47, will be at 4 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Menefee, a Nazarene minister, officiating.

Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home.

Ms. Hughes died Saturday June 10, 2000, in Lubbock.

She was born April 6, 1953, in Lubbock. She had been a lifelong Abernathy resident and a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

She received an associate degree in child development from South Plains College in Levelland. She had worked at Charlie Brown Day Care Center in Abernathy from 1987 to 1991 had been director of Agape child Development Center in Lubbock since 1991.

Survivors include her parents, Tella and Irene Walker of Bethany, Okla.; four sons, Gary Hughes, Mike Hughes and Brandon Hughes, all of Abernathy, and Mark Hughes of Lubbock; two brothers, Duane Walker of Houston and Royce Walker of Abilene; and four grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Agape Child Development Center for playground equipment, c/o Agape United Methodist Church, 1215 Slide Road, Lubbock, TX 79416.
