Celebration of life services for Edna E. Hudgins, 86, of Lubbock, formerly of Plainview, will be conducted at the Lemons Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, with the Rev. Joe P. Weldon, retired Baptist minister, and the Rev. Steve Martin, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Edna Hudgins passed away June 3, 2009, in Lubbock, Texas, after a long illness. Edna was born May 9, 1923, in Waxahachie, Texas, to John and Bessie (Lovell) Taylor. She married Melvin Hudgins in Vernon, Texas, on July 30, 1938. She graduated from Draughn's Business College in Plainview and worked for R.C. Hodges Electric for a number of years. She retired from Wayland Baptist University in 1988 after working 23 years in the registrar's office. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Plainview. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara and husband, Frank Porter, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Shirley and husband, Eddy Holloway, of Lubbock, Texas; one son, Gary and wife, Judy Hudgins, of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Edith James of Gentry, Ark., Jean Newton of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Bessie Collis of Tyler, Texas; three brothers, Charles Taylor of Waxahachie, Texas, Don Taylor of Plainview, Texas, and the Rev. Wendell Taylor of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many dear nieces and nephews and faithful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, in 1996; and an infant son, Joe Don. Memorials in Edna's name may be made to Parkview Baptist Church.
