Obituary

Graveside services for Earnest Hudgins, 69, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview by Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home in Lubbock. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 1501 University Ave., in Lubbock. Mr. Hudgins died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Plainview to Earl and Mae Hudgins. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1954 and studied mechanical engineering and later marketing at Texas Tech. He married Beverly Sue Young in 1957. He worked for Southwestern Public Service Company for 38 years in the engineering and marketing departments including assistant district manager of Lubbock, and Southern Division marketing manager. He was devoted to the Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club, United Way and his church, St. John's United Methodist in Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Sheryl Hudgins of Lincoln, Neb., and Roger and Holly Hudgins of Plano; his mother Mae Jones of Lubbock; one brother, Jerry Lee Hudgins of Lubbock; and six grandchildren. Viewing will be from noon-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggest memorials to St. John's United Methodist Church, 1501 University Ave., Lubbock, TX 79401.
