Funeral services for Bonnie Joe Howell, 97, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lemons Funeral Home Chapel with Capt. Ed Cheshire officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Howell died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, in Running Water Draw Care Center in Olton. He was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Dodd City to William Johnson Howell and Winnie Brown Howell. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Marine Corps at Iwo Jima. After his discharge, he returned to farming in Hale County and later retired in Plainview. He was an active member of the VFW, DAV and American Legion. He also participated in many fund-raising events to benefit veterans through the Salvation Army. Survivors include six nieces, Jane Creech, Clara Murphy, Mary Howell, Carolyn Rowland, Elaine Hicks and Jean Tutt; five nephews, Delbert Howell, L.V. Howell, Richard Howell, Ray Fargason and Eddie Fargason; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. His wife, parents, four sisters and three brothers are deceased. The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army.
