Obituary

Funeral services for Billy Ray Horton, 69, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lemons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Ritter, pastor of Seth Ward Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Horton died Friday, May 14, 2004, at his residence. He was born March 20, 1935, in Floydada. He served with the military from 1957-73 and fought in the Vietnam War. He lived most of his life in Floydada and was a truck driver. On July 15, 1978, he married Leila Johnson in Floydada. She died June 1, 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Cureton of Jefferson City, Tenn.; three stepdaughters, Melody Jay and Candy Collins, both of San Antonio, and Bonni Rains of Austin; a niece, Deanna Rodgers of Plainview; and a close friend, Harry Whitaker of Plainview. Two sisters, Margaret Holt and Sidney McCray; a brother, Edgar Horton; and several grandchildren, are deceased. The family will receive friends in the home of his niece, Deanna Rodgers, 1410 W. Seventh. Memorials are suggested to Seth Ward Baptist Church Sanctuary Fund.
