Obituary

Sherwood Henry Holley Jr., a long-time resident of Plainview, Texas, died on Aug. 3, 2012, in Tyler, Texas. Born on July 6, 1931, near Plainview, Sherwood graduated from Plainview High School before attending Colorado A&M in Fort Collins on a baseball scholarship. Sherwood served in the military before returning to Plainview where he farmed and owned Holley Fertilizer & Implement, Inc. Sherwood was involved in various community activities, including being a member of the Elks Lodge where he served as Exalted Ruler. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church before becoming a member of the Garland Street Church of Christ. Sherwood was married for 45 years to Grace Marie Schacher Holley until her death in 2000. They enjoyed many years of golf and fishing at Lake Conchas, N.M. His brother, Don Holley, preceded Sherwood in death. Sherwood, who was affectionately known as PaPa, is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Nanette Holley of Trophy Club, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Cherisse and Brian Craft of Tyler, Texas; four grandchildren, Ryan Holley of Austin, Texas; Kody and wife, Kristen Holley of Austin, Texas; Holley Craft of Abilene, Texas and Ethan Craft of Tyler, Texas; and two sisters, Toney Lynch and Mar-Jo and her husband Norman Huggins, all of Plainview. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Alzheimers Alliance of Smith County, 211 Winchester Dr., Tyler, TX 75701. A memorial will be held in Plainview at a later date.
