Obituary

Naomi, 96, passed from this life Thursday morning, April 2, to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, in Paradise. She joined her sweetheart, Price, with whom she built a life, sang and laughed, loved and nurtured a family. They gave of themselves to their parents and sisters as caregivers with sweet love and dignity, as their daughter, Gayle, and primary caregiver, LaRenda Faver, have done for Naomi. Naomi and Price graduated from Olton High School in 1931, she as salutatorian, he, her best pal. They wed on Sept. 3, 1933, and were married 65 years before his passing in 1998. She was born to Samuel Robert Garrison and Sarah Frances Martin Garrison on Oct. 5, 1912, in Alma, Okla., as the youngest of two sons and five daughters. Naomi is survived by her sister, Zelma Moore, 98, of Chula Vista, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. She was the precious gift God sent to watch over her children, including her son, Wayne Holland and wife, Ann; and her daughter, Gayle Holland, all of Lubbock, who shared her love of music and pretty gardens. Her grandson, Darryl Holland and wife, Stephanie; and granddaughter, Keila Dillard and husband, Todd, have been blessed to live nearby to celebrate great events and small victories with "Doni" as known by her grandchildren. Great-grandchildren Kelsey Odom, Sloane Dillard and Schuyler Holland of Lubbock shared hugs and learned about tenderness from their sweet "Doni." The Hollands operated movie theaters in Olton and Earth before World War II, moving to Port Arthur for Price to build ships for the U.S. Navy during the war. They moved to Plainview in 1946 to build the State Theater and later the Sunset and Twin-Vue Drive-Ins with wholesome family movies a priority. They merged their drive-ins with the Granada and Fair theaters in the mid-1950s and retired from the movie business in 1970. After retiring, the Hollands worked for fun with their family to plan and develop their children's business, Holland Gardens, as a gardening and Christmas showplace in Lubbock. Naomi selected and priced candles and gifts for the family business. Naomi was a supportive member of College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview and later Oakwood Baptist Church after moving to Lubbock in 1991. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at Lake Ridge Chapel at 6025 82nd St. in Lubbock. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, also at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers at 6025 82nd Street. Graveside services will be at Plainview Memorial Park, 100 South Joliet, at 12:45 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, in Plainview, Texas.
