Reyes Nieves Hernandez, 79, of Avon Park, Fla., formerly of Plainview, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, in Lake Charles, La. Celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Templo Sinai in Plainview with Pastor Ignacio Soto officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Visitation began at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 18, 2011, at Templo Sinai with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. Reyes was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Donna, Texas, to Isabel and Cecilia Torrez Hernandez. Reyes and Mary Trevino were married in Plainview. Mary passed away Jan. 12, 1988. Reyes was extremely talented at upholstery repair, furniture repair and just generally fixing things. He had his own upholstery repair business in Avon Park, Fla. He was good at sports and liked watching sports. Reyes loved to walk, ride his bike and garden. Reyes was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, one sister and one grandson. Reyes is survived by five daughters, Gloria Gonzales and her husband, Santos, of Plainview, Rosemary Hernandez of Uvalde, Martha Romero of Sacramento, Calif., Elvia Higgins of Lubbock and Norma Hernandez-Solorio and her husband, Arnold, of Houston; two brothers, Lino Hernandez of Kansas City, Kan., and Juan Hernandez of Georgia; one sister, Reyna Martinez of Miami, Fla; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
