Obituary

Funeral services for James D. Hearn Sr., 70, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Happy Union Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Walker Jr. of New Creations in Dallas, officiating, assisted by Bishop Leonard Chatham of Full Armor Ministry of Lubbock and the Rev. Richard Miller, interim pastor. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Hearn died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, at his residence. He was born Feb. 29, 1932 in Kenoy, Texas, Red River County. He grew up in Plainview and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. he started farming in 1951. He entered the Army on Dec. 10, 1952 during the Korean War and received the following medals: Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He was discharged on Sept. 17, 1954. Mr. Hearn married Virginia Mae Wade on Jan. 29, 1955 in Plainview. He was a member of the Happy Union Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon in 1958. In 2002, he received an award for Outstanding Citizen in the Austin Heights Community.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda D. and David Johnson of Lubbock, Brenda Sue Hearn of Plainview, Peggy Jean and Frankie McKelvy of Kress and Lillie Marie Hearn of Lubbock; two sons and daughter-in-law, James D. Hearn, Jr. of Plainview and Randy Lawayne and Carolyn Hearn of Plainview; two brothers, J.W. Green of Amarillo and George Hearn of Dalas; six sisters, Lois Mosley, Arma Gentry, Ruby Hearn and Florida Coleman of Plainview, Rhodie Stewart of Denver, CO and Mary B. Bledsoe of California; four grandchildren, Carolyn and Michael Johnson of Lubbock, Jason and Jarron Hearn of Plainview. The family suggests memorials to Happy Union Baptist Church.
