Hayes, Robert Sutton, Mrs. (Gertrude)

Funeral services for Gertrude Hayes, 88, of Plainview will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ with Ron Hayes, minister of Mirick Avenue Church of Christ in Denison, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hayes died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2000, in IHS Heritage Home of Plainview.

She was born Nov. 21, 1911, in Weston. She married Robert Sutton Hayes on April 29, 1931, in Grayson County. He died July 12, 1964.

She grew up and attended schools in Gunter. After her marriage she lived in Gunter and McKinney, then moved to Plainview area in 1949, where they farmed in Edmonson and Finney Switch communities. She moved into Plainview in 1960. She worked as an adult sitter from 1965-1993.

She was a charter member of the 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Melba Jean Peacock of Broomfield, Colo.; three sons, Alton Wallace Hayes of Fort Smith, Ark.; Don Carroll Hayes of Plainview and Ron Hayes of Denison; one sister, Mary Dell Garner of Greenville, 17 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Reta Marcelle Hayes, died Sept. 29, 1934 and a son, Robert Glendon ?Tiny? Hayes, died Oct. 13, 1991.

Family will receive friends at Lemons Funeral Home from 6:30-8 p.m. today.
