Obituary

Lila "Lee" Hawkins, 89, of Plainview, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Prairie House Living Center. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview with Hospice Chaplain Oscar Chavez officiating. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today, July 17, 2013, at the funeral home. Lily Roxy Hawkins was born on April 25, 1924, in Salmon, Idaho, to Hugh and Lonita (Tobias) Harris, and graduated from Salmon High School. She and Charles Owen Hawkins met in San Francisco, Calif., where they were both serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married on July 18, 1947. Charles has preceded her in death. Lila served almost five years in the Navy as a secretary, with part of her service being in the FBI Building. She was a nursing home administrator for more 30 years, at Heritage Home and Plains Convalescent Home, before retiring. She was a loving, caring mother of seven children, and her favorite hobby was fishing. She loved to fish near their home in Pagosa Springs, Colo. Lila will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Lila is survived by her children: Vicky Hutton and her husband Tommy of Shamrock, Texas, Glynda Patton, Debra Morphis and her husband Jerry, and MaryAnn Shackelford, all of Plainview, Teresa Holloman of Searcy, Ark., and Russell Hawkins and his wife Dawn of Bentonville, Ark.; her brother, Ivan Harris of Boise, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles; her brother,Frank Harris; her son Charles Wayne Hawkins; and her grandson Brandon Shackelford.
