Charles Owen Hawkins Funeral Mass for Charles Owen Hawkins, 76, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Alice Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim McCartney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Hawkins died at 6:45 am. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005. He was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Vernon to Owen Southern and Cecilia Laughoff Hawkins. He grew up in Vernon and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Lila Harris on July 18, 1947, in San Francisco, Calif. He moved to Plainview in 1965 and was an auto mechanic for Maggard-Nall Motor Co. and McGavock Motors. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. For the past five years, he lived in the home of Jarvis and Ken Farrow. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Vickie Hutton of Shamrock, Glynda Jackson Patton of Edmonson, Debbie Morphis of Levelland, Mary Ann Shackelford of Rogers, Ark., and Teresa Holloman of Searcy, Ark.; a son, Russell Hawkins of Bentonville, Ark.; two sisters, Willie Mae Lloyd of Decatur and Alice Coleman of Albuquerque, N.M.; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A son, Charles Owen Hawkins, and a grandson, Brandon Shackelford, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to Prairie House Living Center, 1301 Mesa Drive, Plainview, TX 79072.
