Obituary

Mary Nell Hatch, 87, of Plainview, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, in Lubbock. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview. Northwest Church of Christ Elders J Henderson and Gerald Bedwell will officiate. Funeral service arrangements are under the care and direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Family visitation will be from 6 -8 p.m. today, Nov. 23, 2012, at the funeral home. Mary Nell Hatch was born on Dec. 11, 1924, in Wellington, Texas, to Clarence and Thresa Moatte (Pyle) Wilsher. She graduated from high school in Winniwood, Okla. Mary was an original "Rosie the Riveter," working as one in a Douglas Airplane Factory in Oklahoma City during World War II. She became a licensed vocational nurse and worked in the old Plainview Hospital. Mary and Harley Madison "H.M." Hatch were married March 27, 1952, in Plainview, and her greatest joy was serving as housewife and homemaker for her family. She was an excellent seamstress and was very adept at embroidery and quilting. She loved making quilts for her family. Mary was known for her sweet disposition and her embracing sense of humor. A favorite hobby was fishing, particularly in Colorado. Mary was a member of the Church of Christ. Her light will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mary is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Harley Hatch; her adoring children: daughters Vicki Hatch Freeman and Mary Annette Hatch, both of Lubbock; daughter Jeanie Pruett and her husband Brian of Plainview; son Mark Madison Hatch of Denton, Texas; daughter-in-law Kristi Goswick of Lubbock; daughter Jennifer Hufstedler and her husband E.K. of Glen Rose, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
