Obituary

Lucille Harris, who lived in the Lockney area and in Plainview, Texas, for many years died, Aug. 15, 2008, in Albuquerque, N.M. Mrs. Harris was born in Lexington, Okla., on Nov. 12, 1918. When she was 7, her family moved to Floydada, Texas. After marrying the late Clark Harris in 1936, they lived in the Pleasant Valley community south of Lockney where Mrs. Harris was an active community member. She was also a member of the Lockney United Methodist Church and served on the church board and as president and secretary of the Methodist Women. She was active in lay renewal missions and taught in the Sunday school program. While living in Plainview, she was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women. She was president and Bible secretary for the Auxiliary of the Gideons International Plainview camp, as well as a member of the Auxiliary State Cabinet. Mrs. Harris ministered to women in the Hale County Jail and worked with distribution of food at Faith in Sharing House. In 1995, Mrs. Harris moved with her husband to Albuquerque where she was a member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church and the Auxiliary of the Gideons International. She will be remembered as a gracious hostess who enjoyed entertaining the family's many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clark Harris, and son, Ronald Clark Harris. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn James of Fort Worth and Joan Clark of Albuquerque; brother, Duane Burrows of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Nicole Duvall, Rebecca Tulbah, Brooks Clark, Cameron Eastham, Ron Whittington and Rainey Smith; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel at First United Methodist Church in Plainview with the Rev. Fareed Tulbah officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Friends may visit from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Lemons Funeral Home, 206 West Eighth St. Plainview. The family suggests memorials to Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800; or a charity of your choice.
