Obituary

A memorial service for Charles Wayne Haney Sr. of Plainview will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Northwest Church of Christ, Plainview, Texas. Mr. Haney died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, in Mangold Memorial Hospital in Lockney after a brief illness. Mr. Haney donated his body to Texas Tech Health Science Center. He was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Afton, Texas, to Lee and Maggie Haney. He graduated from Bovina High School. He married Loretta Jane Wassom on April 13, 1957. He moved to Plainview in 1968 and was employed by Cloverlake before taking a job with Occidental Chemical where he worked for many years. He later worked as a self-employed carpenter until retirement. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Jane Haney of West Tawakoni, Texas; his brother, Alfred Haney of Hereford, Texas; two sisters, Pearl Kovar of Fort Worth, Texas, and Lucille Joplin of Paris, Texas; five sons, Charley and Joye Haney of Plainview, Texas, Johnny Haney of Bremen, Ala., Jerry and Jody Haney of Plainview, Texas, Jimmy and Beverly Haney of Plainview, Texas, and James and Sherry Haney of East Tawakoni, Texas; one daughter, Jeannie and Butch Strain of Plainview, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity or Hospice Hands of the South Plains.
