Hammit, Claude William, Mrs. (Gertrude Gilly)

Funeral services for Gertrude Hammit, 88, will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Lemons Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Neil Unwin, pastor of First Assembly of God Church. Officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.
Feb. 29, 2000, at her residence.

She was born June 28, 1911, in Lockney. She grew up in Cedar Hill and graduated from Lockney High School. She lived in and around Floyd County where she farmed.

She married Claude William Hammit on Dec. 23, 1926. He died June 13, 1981.

In 1959, she became a licensed vocational nurse and worked for Lockney Hospital. In 1962, she moved to Plainview and worked at Plainview Medical Center and Central Plains Regional Hospital. She retired in 1981. She attended First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Hammit of Hugo, Colo., and Teddy Hammit of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one brother, C.L. Gilly of Floydada; one sister, Frances Hammit of Stephenville, one sister-in-law, Edna Gilly of Plainview; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

A son, Gene Hammit, and two brothers, Clifton Gilly and Gene Gilly, are deceased.
