Obituary

1932 ~ 2009 Mrs. Mary Jo Craig Hamman, 77, longtime Hereford resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 23, 2009. A Celebration of Life Memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, LaPlata & Ironwood in Hereford. Rev. Ted Taylor, Pastor, will officiate. A Graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery in Plainview. Mr. Greg Vincent, son-in-law, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E. 6th Street, Hereford, Texas 79045. Mary Jo was born March 19, 1932, in Pampa to C.L and Ruth Craig. She married the love of her life, Bobby Ray Hamman, on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1959, in Plainview. Mary Jo graduated from Texas Tech University in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in education and received her master's degree in education from West Texas State University. She was an avid Red Raiders fan and loved rooting for Tech every weekend. She and Bob moved to Hereford in 1966, and she taught reading at Stanton Junior High School for many years. She later worked as a social worker for the Texas Department of Human Resources. Mary Jo was the proud "Nana" to five grandsons and spent as much time as possible showering them with her love and prayers. More than anything, Mary Jo had a passion for Jesus Christ and sharing His love and grace with everyone she met. Her life was a living testimony to miracles, healing and faith. She attended the Hereford Church of the Nazarene, and was grateful for the love and support her church family continuously showed her. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ray Hamman, in 2007 and their son, Craig Hamman, in 1991. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ruth (Hamman) Vincent and husband Greg of Amarillo; five grandsons, Donny Vincent, Joshua Rogers, Jacob Rogers, Justin Rogers and Riley Vincent. The family suggest memorials be sent to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 703, Hereford, Texas 79045 or the Methodist Mission Home in San Antonio, Texas. Memorial envelopes for the Gideons are available at the funeral home. Sign the online guest book at www.herefordheritagefh.com.
