Gregg, Aaron Melvin

Funeral services for Melvin Gregg, 98, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in 11th and Amarillo Street Church of Christ with Jesse Pinkerton, David Pinkerton and Bennie Estes officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. Gregg died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in Covenant Hospital.

He was born Dec. 15, 1902, in Travis County. He grew up in Mitchell County and also lived in Anton before moving to Plainview in 1942. He farmed in the Dalhart, Plainview, Littlefield and Anton areas.

He was a member of Second and Beech Street Church of Christ and late 11th and Amarillo Street Church of Christ where he was very active with youth. He worked with youth in caring for livestock and preparing the animals for fat stock shows.

He received the Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree with the FFA and received the Spur Clip Award from the4-H Club.

On Dec. 25, 1926, he married Leota Fay Brown in Mitchell County. She died May 3, 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen E. Savage Heath of Tishomingo, Okla.; three sons, Kenneth Gregg and Lenis Lee Gregg, both of Plainview, and Roy D. Gregg of Fort Worth; two foster children, Hughe and Jenette Jester of Houston; a niece and nephew that he raised, Sharon Brown and David Brown; 12grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Draper Ray Gregg; three brothers, Herman, V.L. and Luther Gregg, and a sister, Merle Gardner, are deceased.

The Family suggests memorials to the 11th and Amarillo Street Church of Christ.

Melvin Gregg, who died Tuesday at the age of 98, is survived by 20 great-grandchildren, rather than 10 as listed in Thursday?s obituary. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in 11th and Amarill Street Church of Christ.
