Obituary
Juanita Jo Beasley Green "Her eyes did sparkle; her lips did smile; her voice did laugh; and her heart did love." Juanita Jo Beasley Green died at 9:05 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2011, at Prairie House in Plainview, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She was born to Chester Beasley and Edna Martin Beasley on Oct. 8, 1916, in Throckmorton, Texas. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 67 years, Raymond K. Green, and oldest son Raymond Kent Green. She is survived by her sister, Violet Page of Plainview; children, Jim B. Green and wife, Mary, of Estes Park, Colo., and Barbara Franklin and husband, Alan, of Austin; and daughter-in-law Barbara Green of Plainview. She was a loving grandmother to Richard Green of Lubbock, Katie Brakemeier of Keller, Holly Reed of Estes Park, Kelli Thompson of McKinney and Scott Green of Beale Air Force Base, Calif. Seven great-grandchildren survive her: Ashlyn and Kamryn Brakemeier, Kinley and Charlotte Thompson, Claire and James Reed and Dirk Williams of Austin. Jo grew up in Waco, Texas, and graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor's degree in education. Along with her roles of wife and mother, she was a third grade teacher for 26 years, spending many dedicated years teaching at Highland Elementary and Edgemere Elementary schools. She valued education second only to her family. Jo taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Church when her children were young and was active in many church activities. After retirement, Jo loved the wonderful travel adventures she and Raymond shared and the many wonderful friends they made in the Silver Streak Travel Club. She was a talented artist and writer. Oil painting and relaxing with a good book were two of her most enjoyable hobbies. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, at First United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. The family wishes to express special thanks to the many community friends and caregivers who offered support during her later years at the Santa Fe House and Prairie House. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1984, Plainview, TX 79072; or First United Methodist Church, 1001 W. Seventh St., Plainview, TX 79072.
