Obituary
Funeral services for H.W. Grady, 62, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Martin officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mr. Grady died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 30, 1944, in Corpus Christi to Henry and Ruth Grady. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961-69, serving in Vietnam from 1965-68. He earned numerous medals during his service, including three Good Conduct Medals, he was a Purple Heart recipient and earned Rifle and Pistol Expert Badges. He married Linda Bankston on Sept. 16, 1984, in Rotan where they lived until moving to Abernathy in 1987. He served as chief of police in Rotan for 10 years, and after moving to Abernathy he also served as chief of police until becoming a Hale County deputy sheriff in 1997 until his death. He was a member of the Law Enforcement Association and served as alderman on the Abernathy City Council from 1998-2000. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael Grady of Richland Hills, Harlan Grady of Hurst and Jeremy Grady of Abernathy; one daughter, Sarah Grady of Abernathy; two half-brothers, Dusty Grady of Lake Worth and Russell Grady of Arlington; two half-sisters, Alma Joyce Stone and Jamie Sue Riley both of Fort Worth; one stepbrother, Terry Stanford of Hamilton; his stepmother, Ada Grady of Euless; five granddaughters; and two grandsons.
