Obituary

Funeral services for Exia Ruth Swim Gooch, age 75, of Plainview will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jesse Hodge officiating and the Rev. Horace Abbott, pastor, assisting. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Gooch passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Ruth was born to William and Exia Emma Darby Swim on February 4, 1930, in Paris, Texas. She married Blake Gooch on July 9, 1950, in Putnam. She taught in the Plainview Independent School District for 20 years before retiring. Ruth was a member of the Hale County Retired Teachers Association, the Hi-Plains Genealogical Society and Grace United Methodist Church. Ruth is survived by a daughter, Judy Gooch of Lubbock; three sons, Jerry Gooch of Springtown, Gene Gooch of Vernon, and Wes Gooch of Baton Rouge, La.; and six grandchildren, Grant Gooch of Euless, Catherine Gooch of Denton, Richard Gooch of Holliday, Meredith Gooch of Lewisville and David and Aaron Gooch, both of Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband who died June 27, 2005. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. today and suggests memorials be made to the Gooch Family Scholarship Fund c/o Vernon College, 4400 College Drive, Vernon, 76384 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 4440 N. Big Spring, Midland, 79075.
