Obituary

Funeral services for former Hale Center resident Virginia "Virgie" Gonzales, 80, of Temple will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center with the Rev. John Smith officiating. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m today at the church. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. Miss Gonzales died on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at her residence in Temple after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on Feb. 28, 1928, in Lubbock. She lived in Hale Center from 1953-2007 before moving to Temple. She was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church and a lifelong member of the Guadalupanas organization. Her parents, Victory and Ramona Gonzales; a brother, Joe Gonzales; and a sister, Mary Gonzales are deceased. Survivors include a brother, Albert Gonzales and wife, Merrilee, of Temple; five sisters, Annie Lucero of Clovis, N.M., Nellie Garcia of Hale Center, Ramona Simpson and husband, Charles, of Belton, Frances Hinojosa and husband, Beto, of Lubbock, and Ruby Jones and Jesse of Houston; 38 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
