Obituary

Funeral services for Olivia S. Gonzales, 88, of Plainview, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Reymundo Manriquez officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Open visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. today, July 3, 2012, and will begin at noon Wednesday, July 4, 2012. There will be a celebration of Olivia's life from 6-7 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 4. Mrs. Gonzales died at 10:45 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012 at home surrounded by family members. She was born Aug. 13, 1923 in Martindale, Texas, to Santiago and Adela (Maldonado) Sandoval, and married Carmen Gonzales on Sept. 13, 1942 in New Braunfels, Texas. She grew up in Martindale and attended school there. They moved to Plainview in 1947. Throughout her life Olivia had several occupations which included picking cotton, nursing aide, sales associate at J.C. Penney, Avon representative and theatre attendant. She later became business owner of Record Hop; a family restaurant; and lastly, Modern Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner of Plainview in 1955; and Modern Carpet and Furniture Center of Plainview and Dimmitt in 1977. Olivia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carmen R. Gonzales, on Sept. 15, 1995; her brother, Alfonso Sandoval; her sisters, Consuelo Ortiz and Maria Perez; and her son-in-law, Victor N. Ramos Jr. Surviving her are two daughters, Mary Esther Ramos of Plainview and Kathy S. Gonzalez of Lubbock; a son, Larry S. Gonzales and his wife, Susie, of Dimmitt; five sisters, Esperanza Silva of Dallas and Elvira Hernandez, Josephine Caballero, Olga Guerrero and Ospicia Garcia, all of New Braunfels; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Lewis Alvarez, Stacy Gonzales, Joshua Gonzales, Zachary Gonzales, Ramon Caballero Jr. and Joseph Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Sandoval, Jessie Ortiz, Nino Perez, Joe Silva, Jimmy Hernandez, Oscar Bustos, David Caballero and Karman Gonzales.
