Obituary
Larry Don Golden, better known as Doodad, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 at the age of 66. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Northwest Church of Christ. Visitation will be held today from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Larry was born in Plainview on Feb. 2, 1947. He married the love of his life, Jill Matsler, on Dec. 22, 1967, in Floydada. They were happily married for 45 years. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in animal science. He was on the Oklahoma State meat judging team and was high individual at the National Intercollegiate Championships in 1969. Larry lived and farmed in the Aiken community, where he grew cotton, grain sorghum and hay. He always had a natural love for animals. He raised registered Angus cattle, registered Chiangus cattle, Belgian Blue cattle, English bulldogs, llamas, miniature donkeys, goats, walaroos, muntjac, Eland antelope, one camel, plus countless other animals; we are not real sure what they were. In his life, he and Jill traveled all over the world. They had a love mostly for Costa Rica and Ireland. After retiring he became an obsessed golfer. More than life itself though, he loved God, his wife, his children and his grandchildren. Larry was a member of Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview for 43 years, where he served as a deacon for 12 years and an elder for 20 years. He was also a member at Northwest Church of Christ in Plainview. He was a servant in every way! He is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Gladys Golden, and a sister Kay Williams. Larry is survived by his wife Jill Golden of Aiken, and three sons, Colt Golden of Austin, Chad Golden and his wife Jennifer of Highland Village, and Clay Golden and his wife Heather of Aiken. He had five grandchildren, Grayson, Brenner, Grant, Brooklyn and Laney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Medina Children's Home, 21300 State Highway 16, Medina, TX 78055.
