Obituary

Funeral Mass for Vicente Garza, 85, of Plainview will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymundo Manriquez, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Bartley Memorial Chapel. Mr. Garza died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at his residence. He was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Runge, Texas, to Alfredo and Elvira Garza. He married Maggie Altemerano in 1946 in Runge. She died Oct. 24, 1991. He lived in Runge and O'Donnell, Texas, before making his home in Plainview. He worked on a farm and loved to raise farm animals. He was a very hard worker and retired from Acme Brick Co. He loved to dance and listen to music. He was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Kay Ramirez and husband, Ruben, of Plainview and Janie Perez and husband, Robert, of Plainview; one son, Arnold Lee Garza of Austin; one brother, Alfredo Garza Jr. of Olton; three sisters, Santos Gonzales of Amarillo, Juanita Mendoza of Corpus Christi and Elvira Fonseca of Olton; five grandchildren, Monica Rendon and husband, Andy, of Plainview, Ruben Ramirez Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Plainview, Julie Ann Kay Ramirez of Plainview, Jerry Lee Perez and wife, Patty, of San Antonio and Norma Bullard and husband, Keith, of Odessa; six great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Kayla Perez of San Antonio, Adrian, Makayla and Julissa Ramirez of Plainview and Maggie Jane Bullard of Odessa; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him a lot. He was preceded in death by both parents; one brother, Emergilo Garza; one sister, Ernestina Martinez; one son, Vicente Garza Jr.; and one daughter, Margarita Garza.
