Funeral Mass for Israel Garza, 72, was at 3 p.m. today in St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Arnold Bravo officiating.

Burial was in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home.

Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the same church.

Mr. Garza died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in Lubbock.

He was born April 9, 1930, in La Copita. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He moved to Abernathy in 1956 where he farmed and worked for Wolf Irrigation, retiring in 2000.

He was one of the founding members of St. Isidore Catholic Church and a member of Sacred Heart and the Crusillistas.

On Dec. 17, 1955, he married Janie Mansanales in Lubbock.

Survivors include his wife; two sons. Israel Garza Jr., of Lewisville and Victor Garza of Odessa; two daughters, Lisa Garza of Denver, Colo., and Susann Romero of Clovis, N.M.; two brothers. Noe Garza of Santa Elena and Antonio Garza of Tupoli; three sisters, Isabel Tiherina of Alice and Elida Garcia and Maria Robio, both of Beeville; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Abernathy Cemetery Association, c/o First State Bank, 4029th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311; or to St. Isidore Catholic Church, 17819N. I-27, Abernathy, TX 79311.
