Garcia, Carmen B.

Funeral Mass for Carmen B. Garcia, 103, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerard Kenney, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home.

Rosary will be recited at 7 pm. Today in Lemons Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Garcia died Sunday, April 13, 2003, in Plainview Healthcare Center.

She was born Sept. 6, 1899, on the El Relampago (Lightning) Ranch south of Weslaco. In 1935, she moved to Mission and worked on a farm, raising her brother and sisters and helping raise several of her nieces and nephews. In 1949, she moved to Aiken to live with her son and his family. While in Aiken she held prayer meetings and singing in her home for migrant worker families in the area.

In 1956, she moved back to Mission where she crocheted and made linens for the church, serving on the church?s Altar Society. In 1988, she moved back to Plainview. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include a son, Raymundo Jimenez of Plainview; six grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; 25 nieces and nephews; and 54 great-nieces and nephews.

A brother and four sisters are deceased.
