Graveside services for Walter Newt Gant, 88, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Plainview Memorial Park with Harold Abney, chaplain of Hospice Hands of West Texas, officiating. Arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Gant died Thursday, June 15, 2006, in Sera Rose care facility in Plainview. Mr. Gant was born Feb. 6, 1918, in Hill County to Jack and Ada Gant. He grew up and attended schools in Whitney. He married Sudie Simmons on June 6, 1941, in Whitney. She died April 24, 2005. He moved to Aiken in 1957 where he farmed until retiring in 1979. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Aiken and First Baptist Church in Lockney. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Larry Elam of Olton; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Freddie and Judy Gant of Apple Valley, Calif., Ray and Lynda Gant of Aiken and Roy and Jean Gant of Graham; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Freda Popejoi of Lubbock and Ferna and Darwin Hill of Aquila; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. His brother, J.C. Gant, and one sister, Catherine Foreman, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church of Lockney, 401 S. Main, Lockney, TX 79214.
