Obituary

A memorial service for Gladys Adelle Frye, 92, former longtime Plainview resident, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mrs. Frye died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in Nacogdoches. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Bartley Funeral Home, and a private graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. Gladys A. Frye was born July 2, 1915, in McKinney, Texas, and moved to Plainview when she was about 5-years-old. Her maiden name was Lindsey and she grew up on a small farm in the Seth Ward area of Plainview. The large Lindsey family included her brothers, Roy, Erwin, Stanley, Leon and Dene, along with sisters Jettie, Vaneva, Mary Ruth, Fannie Mae and Helen. All but Dene are deceased. She married George Frye on April 17, 1938, and they had been married for 67 years when George preceded her in death in September 2005. Gladys was blessed with three sons, Bobby Jack Frye, Jerry K. Frye and Danny R. Frye (deceased). Gladys worked in sales or as cashier for the Hilton Hotel, Sears, Plains Drug and for more than 20 years at West's Pharmacy. She loved human interaction, and loved to meet and talk with people. Throughout her life, she loved and put her full trust in God. She tried her best to serve the Lord. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses for her entire adult life. She read the Bible daily and loved to discuss the Bible with anyone who would listen. Her major strength came from the comfort and hope she received from her love and study of the Bible. All who knew Gladys greatly respected her determined faithfulness to study the Bible and share her understanding with everyone. Most recently, she lived in Nacogdoches, Texas. The family will always be very grateful to Shirley McCarty, a gentle, loving, special caregiver who took care of Gladys the past year of her life and became our family's good friend. Survivors include her sons, Dr. Jerry K. Frye and his wife, Nanette Nixon Frye, of Nacogdoches, and Dr. Bob J. Frye and his wife, Alice Swanner Frye, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Barry Frye and his wife, Hayley, of Plainview, Brenda Frye Faxel and her husband, Ralph, and their children, Sara Elizabeth and Drew Edward Faxel of Friendswood, Cindy Frye Collins and her husband, Chuck, and their children, John Parnell and Mattie Maria Collins of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Walter Frye of Plainview; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the LifeCare Hospice Health Services of Nacogdoches, the James L. West Alzheimer Center of Fort Worth, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences can be made at [email protected]
